The late Séamus Ó Faoláin

The members of Mullingar Shamrocks GAA Club were saddened this morning to learn of the death of Séamus Ó Faoláin (Seamus Whelan) former Chairman of the Westmeath County Committee and a proud member of the Castletown Geoghegan Hurling Club and St Malachy’s Football Club. Sincere sympathy is tended to Seamus’s wife Sarah, to his sisters Marie (Cosgrove) and Connie (Keegan) and to his brother Gerry and to the extended Whelan family.

A gentleman and a gentle man, Séamus served as Chairman of the Westmeath County Committee from 1986 until 2007 and gave extraordinary service to the county as an administrator and to his two clubs as both a player and administrator. His term of office coincided with the Golden Era of Mullingar Shamrocks and Séamus presented the Flanagan Cup to our captain on seven occasions. It was a source of great pride to Séamus to see a number of county finals hosted in his beloved Páirc Mhic Eochagáin during the time that Cusack Park was undergoing redevelopment.

Westmeath GAA County Committee have created a book of condolence for Seamus. You can click on the link below and add in your memories or condolence message for Seamus.
