ACL Div.2: Shandonagh 6-15 Mullingar Shamrocks 2-9
A heavy defeat for Mullingar Shamrocks in this ACL Div. 2 match played in Baltic, Artic or whatever other word is appropriate to convey the freezing conditions that the latest High Pressure visit brought.
Jake Costello opened the scoring for Shandonagh from the start but from the restart Neill Hannigan fielded superbly and set up Paul Keating who equalised. Shandonagh added two points and mid-way through the half added two killer goals courtesy of Brian Donnelly and Brian Kavanagh who intercepted the restart from Donnelly’s goal. Three kicks two goals and it looked ominous. A big block from Conor Fitzpatrick prevented an earlier goal. Two Ross Corroon points and one from Gavin Pierce revived hopes but goals from Jake Costello, Rory O’ Brien and Brian Donnelly and a two-pointer from Donnelly brought ominous back into play. Conor Heffernan cracked a shot off the crossbar before the break. It was great to welcome Conor back to action after 12-month absence due to a serious knee injury. Marc Eivers and Ryan Kelly got in a bit of training before the game and are progressing nicely and should be ready for before the season ends. Conor Heffernan wasn’t the only Conor to return to active service as Conor Fagan also made a welcome return.
