The Late Joe Niland …

The executive and members of Mullingar Shamrocks  extend deepest sympathy to the family of the late Joe Niland of Cloonliffe, Moycullen, and formerly of Corofin, Co. Galway and Hillside Drive Mullingar.

In particular sympathy is extended to Joe’s wife  Mary, his children Joseph, Richard, Elizabeth, Catherine and George, son-in-law Cathal, daughters-in-law Elizabeth, Annmarie and Arianna, grandchildren Rosa, Liam, Evie, Eleanor and Éabha, brothers Sean, T.P. and Francis, sisters Philomena, Elizabeth, Sal and Mary, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.
Joe reposes at his residence (H91 P215) on Friday the 26th of December from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral will arrive to The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Moycullen (H91 Y54A) on Saturday the 27th of December for Requiem Mass at 12.00 noon. Joe will then be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

During his time in Mullingar, where he taught in St Mary’s CBS, Joe represented Mullingar Shamrocks  for many years in Scór Tráth na gCesiteanna and other competitions and won several county Scór titles representing the club. His knowledge of the GAA, Irish history and current affairs was second to none, a knowledge that he always wore lightly. Joe's encyclopedic knowledge of sport in general was confirmed when he won the RTE sports quiz, Know Your Sport.
Joe  was also a noted Gaelic footballer and represented his native Galway and has the distinction of  scoring a hat-trick of goals  against Kerry in an NFL game.
May Joe's Kind and Gentle Soul Rest in Eternal Peace
